USA vs. Norway - Mens hockey

Yesterday was another victory for Team USA. Both the women and the men won and everything is going smoothly for them. Since the games overlapped once again, I had to choose which game to cover and I decided to shoot the men's game once again. For one thing, there is more interest in the men's team, but also the arena is walking distance from the condo and in close proximity to everything else. The arena where the women were playing (Thunderbird) is out by the airport, and can take 45 minutes to get to.

USA ended up beating the team from Norway by a score of 6 to 1. Here are the shots from that game.

I love the flex of the stick. This shot went into the back of the net for the second score of the game.

...and there it is. The biscuit into the basket.

As you can tell, I am really loving the fish eye lens along the glass. Every time the buck comes by my shooting location, I reach down and grab the 5D Mark II with the Sigma fish eye lens and hope for a good hot like this one. The trick is, I need the players to be very close to the glass but not completely squished against it.

I laughed when I took this shot, since it is not often that you see a goalie looking up like this. The puck had deflected really high in the air and he was tracking it.

During the second break, I braved the crowds and went up into the public area to shoot some fan shots. This one was one of my favorites.

Another score...

...and then...as the game ended, I found out that the mens figure skating competition (which we thought would be a ticketed event even for us photographers) had open shooting locations, so I high tailed it over there. That story to come...
