I took a little walk around Paris - and I didn't bring my big camera!

Yesterday I had a little time between covering Athletics and the USA Water Polo game. Instead of writing a blog, I actually decided to give myself a little break and go for a walk. I noticed that Sacré Coeur was only 2 miles away and I thought it would be nice to see at least one site in Paris while here. Originally I grabbed my Canon R5 MKII and RF 24-70mm lens, but then decided that I wanted to travel light, and give my back a rest. I had my iPhone with me, and decided that this would be my only camera on this little excursion.

Then I remembered that Tiffen had sent me a cool attachment for my phone that allowed me to have a 58mm circular polarizing filter on my iPhone, and it was in my Thinktank rolling bag. This little contraption snaps on magnetically, so it is simple to put on and take off. In the past, I would try to shoot through my sunglasses to get polarization. This was so much better and it is only $39 at B&H (plus the filter which is $17)!

For those who don't know, a polarizing filter really punches the color in the blue sky and adds contrast to the clouds. It also helps mitigate reflections in windows and water.

So off I went with just my phone and the filter adaptor.

The hike up to Sacré Coeur is a good one with really long flights of stairs, but worth the effort for sure.  And it was really nice to travel light for the first time in 2 weeks. Check out the photo. Not too shabby, huh?

I shot images as if I was shooting with one of my Canon cameras, trying different angles and getting down low.

It was a really nice day too. It ended up raining that night, but before that, it was really pleasant. I saw this classic Paris street scene and captured that.

Having been to this area before (a week before the London Summer Olympics back in 2012), I remembered the cute shopping area around the back of the church.

There were endless locks on the fences surrounding the area, so I got down low enough to capture the locks with the skyline of Paris in the background.

Since I am almost never in any photos, I asked a police officer if she could take a photo of me in this classic spot. I look like a total tourist, but... This will also be the last photo of me with my Jeff Cable Photography hat, as I lost it a couple hours later.

Before heading back down the hill and back to the badminton venue (to get my bag and head to the water polo venue), I decided to take a wide shot of Sacré Coeur. You can see some of the bending of light coming from the sun, but I really like that in this shot. Overall, I was really happy to travel light, take in the moment, and still get some nice photos for my own memories. Then I was right back to work!
