A couple of days ago I made another trip out to shoot images of fencing. This time it was the men's team competition. This venue is so much fun to shoot since they have very cool theatrical lighting and the action is always good.
I shot images from the side and also (with a longer lens) from a head-on position. The nice thing about the fencing venue is, I can move around more freely than most of the other venues. Also, this venue has sitting positions on the side but I am free to stand and move almost anywhere on the end.
Both of these guys thought that they had scored a point.
Again, shooting from the head-on position, but this time I moved farther to the left so that I would have the world's flags behind the fencers. I think that this adds a nice background element vs. the black background.
I really like the curving of the foil on this shot.
Towards the end of my shooting at this venue, I decided to step way back and shoot this wide shot with the 70-200 to show you what the entire place looks like. They have the ability to have 4 matches going on at any one time. Then, when it comes to the finals, they change the lighting of the venue and have the final match on the center spot.
This is one of my favorite shots from the session. I used the Canon 300mm f2.8 lens and shot in really tight. I love the simplicity of this photo. Even though we can not see the athlete's face, we can still sense the concentration.

I am enjoying your pictures daily- what amazing images you are getting! It is hard to not watch the Olympics on TV......! So fun that you get to see them in person.
