Four days and counting to Tokyo

It is hard to believe that I am in the final countdown for the trip to Tokyo. After so many start and stops, it seems surreal that the Olympics are happening. And I have heard from so many of you, hearing everything from "glad the Games are happening" to "they should be cancelled". But regardless of what we all think, the Games are indeed happening, and I plan on being there and staying as safe as I can.

The next couple of days are Covid testing days. The Olympic Organizing Committee (and the Japanese government) are requiring that anyone who is credentialed for the Olympics must be Covid tested 96 hours and 72 hours prior to our trip. But after a lot of research, I found it very difficult to find a place that meets the strict guidelines set forth by the committee and that will guarantee results back within 48 hours. So I have decided to double my efforts and I am going to get tests at CVS and also a local urgent care today and tomorrow. Yep, four tests in two days. I figure that it is worth the extra expense to cover my bases.

I am still receiving endless emails from the USOPC and TOCOG about the arrival process and what to expect when I get to Tokyo, so I am setting my expectations low and hoping for the best.

I am not much of a planner and I am notorious for my last minute packing. But the Olympics are a different beast and so my "night before" packing just won't work. I am laying out the clothes, and camera accessories that will get packed in my suitcase and checked in the belly of the airplane. And for all of you wondering if I ever check my camera gear, the answer is "Heck no!".

I just checked the weather in Tokyo and it looks like we are in for a lot of rain. This is something we are not used to in California. Heck, I can't remember the last time I saw rain.

I have a whole bunch of camera gear that I am preparing for the trip. Thanks to Canon, I have a bunch of loaner product, as well as my own gear, which I will haul over to to Tokyo.

The next blog post will include photos of my gear for you all to see. I would post it now, but I am not at that point of my packing yet! Suffice it to say that this will be my first Olympic Games where I am shooting almost all mirrorless cameras.

Stay tuned for the gear shot and list!

I gotta run. I am off to go get another Covid test. ðŸ˜Š

I got tested at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds last Monday and got my results the next day. It’s another option and you can make an appointment online…many same day appointments are available.
