Yesterday I had a little time between covering Athletics and the USA Water Polo game. Instead of writing a blog, I actually decided to give myself a little break and go for a walk. I noticed that Sacré Coeur was only 2 miles away and I thought it would be nice to see at least one site in Paris while here. Originally I grabbed my Canon R5 MKII and RF 24-70mm lens, but then decided that I wanted to travel light, and give my back a rest. I had my iPhone with me, and decided that this would be my only camera on this little excursion.
Then I remembered that Tiffen had sent me a cool attachment for my phone that allowed me to have a 58mm circular polarizing filter on my iPhone, and it was in my Thinktank rolling bag. This little contraption snaps on magnetically, so it is simple to put on and take off. In the past, I would try to shoot through my sunglasses to get polarization. This was so much better and it is only $39 at B&H (plus the filter which is $17)!
For those who don't know, a polarizing filter really punches the color in the blue sky and adds contrast to the clouds. It also helps mitigate reflections in windows and water.
Before heading back down the hill and back to the badminton venue (to get my bag and head to the water polo venue), I decided to take a wide shot of Sacré Coeur. You can see some of the bending of light coming from the sun, but I really like that in this shot. Overall, I was really happy to travel light, take in the moment, and still get some nice photos for my own memories. Then I was right back to work!
