As a follow up to the last blog post which showed the pairs skating, this blog post shows the women's individual part of the competition.
I shot this (and all the skating that evening) from a high position. I preferred that for the pairs, but would have been happier to be at ice level for the individuals. In order to shoot from ice level, photographers need to submit a request two days in advance and then there is a lotto to determine who gets the access. Since this was a last minute decision for me, there was no way for me to get a Field of Play (FOP) sleeve.
As before, I used the Olympic backgrounds as much as possible.
I really did not like the lines that were painted on the ice, but since this same venue is used for short track speed skating, the lines have to be there for that sport.
I saw that the Italian skater was moving towards the right side of the rink, and near her teammates. I quickly zoomed my lens out to 70mm to make sure to include her and her teammates who were cheering her on.
The Italian crowd was cheering loudly for this performance.
Then it was time for Amber Glenn to do her thing.
She seemed to be skating fine, but never had a smile on her face.
I later found out that she was not feeling comfortable out there.
Once again, the Japanese came up strong.
After these strong performances, it was going to be up to the men to determine who would take home the gold medals.
